Welcome!

Hi there! I'm Vaishali. Welcome to Redefining Inclusivity! We are so happy to have you here.

If you're reading this post, it's more than likely that you're a parent to a neurodivergent or intellectually disabled child looking for information on keeping your child engaged in school, especially during this time of online learning. Or maybe, you're just a bright mind looking to bring awareness to the important matter of social events not being fit for children on the spectrum. But why should you have to? Shouldn't the community be more accommodating to children with special needs?

My goal through this site is to spotlight the need for inclusiveness in social life at school, extending to neurodivergent students. From overstimulating environments to inaccessibility of venues, large social events simply do not accommodate the needs of over 12.5% of the world's population. And we can all start with the simple things, such as inclusive language-the idea of using politically correct terms for different groups of people.

I hope you'll follow along on my journey of constantly learning and making my little piece of the world a better place. I'm excited to see how we grow together as a community of parents, co-workers, peers, teachers, students, friends, and family. Let's redefine inclusivity in our homes, communities, schools and lives. Here's to change, starting from us.

On behalf of myself, our partners, and other authors, thanks for reading!

Until next time,

-Vaishali (she/her)
